In the various 'anonymous' programs we often refer to our 'Higher Power'. The beauty of how this is talked about in the 12 step programs is that is leaves each one to believe as they choose. This was really brought home to me years ago by my sponsor at the time (Steve Wall) in the following story.

He had an argument with his girlfriend and decided to walk home (which was a walk of miles, not blocks) and was crossing the Tacoma Narrows bridge when he had this conversation with God as he understood him.

'What are the true religions?'

'They all are.'

' So Christianity is a true religion?'

'Yes'

'And Islam is a true religion?'

'Yes'

'And Buddhism is a true religion?'

'Yes'

'How can they all be true?'

'If I spoke to you in Chinese would you understand it?'

'No'

"If I spoke to you in Italian would you understand it?'

'No'

'How about any of the other foreign languages?'

'No"

'The same is true when I talk to your heart. I speak to people in a language that they can understand. They are all "True" religions. Just spoken in different languages so that all can understand'
